When When running a medium voltage riser up a building to the penthouse (concrete encased) where does it say in the code how much cover is required (conc.) around the duct bank? There are pull boxes installed every couple floors with vertical supports for the cables but where can I find how much encasement I need around my conduits does it get designed like a duct bank just vertically? I have seen many details for different duct banks with different requirements for the amount of concrete topping is this in relation to the depth?

Mike,
The code does not specify or require this concrete, unless you are trying to keep service conductors "outside" of the building. In that case, a 2" encasement is required.

Outside of bldg.

Outside of bldg.

Yes these conductors are considered as they run from the utility up thru the bldg to the penthouse and into the load break on the substation, where is the 2" min? in 300.50 (underground installation) it indicates for other nonshielded cables to be encased in not less than 3"?, Where can I find the requirement for service conductors running thru a bldg to service another? or just the service entrance conductors?
