cable openings are mentioned in 110.12(A).

Yes, cable openings in boxes, enclosures etc., not fittings. :)

IMO it is a 110.3(B) / 300.15 issue.

I do it once in a while, normally when I suspect I will be adding another cable in the future.

The connectors I use close the unused side of the hole pretty well when tightened.

This doesn't help answer the posted question, but why use the Duplex MC Connector when you only need a single? Generally they cost 3-4 times as much.

Really? :-?

I see three code references and an opinion that suggests asking the local inspector.

The single connector you want is not on hand or you think you may run another later.

Iwire - when I said "This doesn't help answer the question" - I was only referring to the question I was asking - didn't imply the question so far had gone unanswered. I think checking the manufacturer's data would probably be the best course to take - if the particular "duplex connecter" is listed for a single, then you're in.

I see it all the time a dual Arlington with one MC in the connector. Hey...who cares. We have bigger fish to fry like inspect more important things like Fire pumps, shunt trip on elevators and recall, fire alarms, Generators, etc.....In summary, Like Bob kinda said "that was the connector I had at the time". I would not want to go 11 floors down to get a single Arlington..

Note Arlington is a brand name
