I've never wired a duplex and I have a very small profit line. It is only 1700sqft and I told a friend I would wire it for $2.00 sqft. Roughly 3600 bux. Like I said theres not much profit line so I need be tight on the J O B. The reason I am writing is I would like to see if you guys and girls have any input as to way to save money that pertain to a duplex.
Each unit is only 850 sqft. All electric. No dishwashers or dispoals. My load calculations says I can't use a 100amp service on each side. A 200 Amp panel is too much and a 150 is too expensive. What to do , what to do. Would someone please perform your own load calculation and confirm or dis confirm my results. Thanks.

Re: Duplex Questions

Without getting real specific, I think you are over 100 amps.
850sq ft x 3 = 2550 va
2 sm app ckts 3000 va
laundry 1500 va
range 8000 va
elec heat 10000 va

Total 25050 va/104 amps

This doesn't include any specific loads, water heater, fans, etc., and uses a typical range. You might verify actual loads, but I think you might consider a 125 amp. It may be less expensive depending on who the manufacturer is.

Re: Duplex Questions

I believe there is a 125 Amp Main breaker panel available from Cutler Hammer. Milbank makes a meter socket that is rated at 125Amps also. So it would seem you get away with the "less than" 200Amp size equipment.

Good luck.
