Duplex

I am wiring my first Duplex and I was looking in the code box for anything on shared wall space. Haven't been able to find anything, so can you put romex in the same wall for both sides of the duplex or do they have to be seperated in some way? Thanks in advance for your help.

The NM should be fine, the issue will be boxes.

Assuming this is a firewall seperating the halfs, you can not have boxes facing into both units in the same studbay.

Hopefully Roger will post, he is sharp on these rules. :)

I thought you were talking about your first duplex receptacle. About to call the DIY police.

The information you recieved in the 2nd post is correct.

The minimum distance required between the boxes in fire rated walls will be 24".

In non- fire rated walls having the boxes in the same stud cavity is permitted.

There are other ways that allow 2 penetrations to be within the same wall cavity.Take back to back identical kitchens where to maintain spacing in each kitchen there is no choice but to place them within the same cavity.I have encountered this in condo`s.

The answer was to 5 side the boxes with 5/8 fireboard. The GC footed the bill and the drywaller got $25.00 / 5 side.He made out like a bandit.Noy sure but I think 3m putty pads are also allowed for this.
