Taking the masters exam and just needed some help on single family dwelling calc. First is a frig in a kitchen considered a fixed appliance. I dont think so and would think it would be on small appliance load. But if it is listed as part of the appliance list would you use it or omitt it. Second is the 125% of largest motor what motors are they meaning is it the kitchen appliances such as trash compactor or dishwasher, or maybe A/C or would it be another motor like a pool motor or sump pump. Help would be appreciated.

The real difficulty in giving you advice here is that someone wrote the question, and you need to give the answer that that someone thinks is right.

What I would have done, if I had gotten a similar question on my Electrical Administrator Exam, which I took so long ago that I don?t remember what they asked, is (1) To include 3,000 VA for a pair of SA circuits, (2) Presume that the fridge would get plugged into a receptacle powered by one of those two SA circuits, and (3) Leave the fridge out of any list of appliances that get counted separately.

As to the largest motor, I would expect that the A/C unit would be the largest for a single family dwelling.

Best of luck on your exam.

See 220.53-----Note: Small appliance circuits are not counted in the appliance load (220.53) factors. See 220.52 for small appliance circuit load

I would use it if they listed it as part of the appliance load per section 220.53.

See 430.24

For A/C's: see NEC 220.82(C)

You really need to get a study guide, and look at the Annex examples in the NEC. Then get back to us if you have questions.
