Is there a code requirement (electrical, mechanical, other) that states a hood fan is to be installed over a dwelling unit range?

Thank you.

There could be a local code. From what I can see ASHRAE has developed a standard that would require some sort of ventilation.

I did a quick search and found a Home Inspector looking for a reason to write it up as a concern and their standard would be good enough for that purpose.

Freestanding or built-in ranges shall have a vertical clearance above the cooking top of not less than 30" to unprotected combustible material. Reduced clearances are permitted in accordance with the listing & labeling of the range hoods or appliances.

Hope this helps.
