when calculating dwelling units, if you use the standard method for a dwelling unit, and then use the optional method for the same unit, will the result ALWAYS be the same?

just a thought i had.

They approach the subject in two entirely different ways, so there is no reason to expect the same results. I think that the optional method would not have been created, unless there were an expectation that it would, at least sometimes, give a lower result. Every time I did both calculations, the optional method was the smaller answer.

That is why the optional method is used when adding AC or square footage. Most of the time it will keep you from having to do a service change.
