Can anyone comment on whether I should be able to place this breaker into the panel in the pictures attached, in place of the lug set at the top? Looks like a decent bet to me. Not sure about a hold-down provision.

My guess is it won't fit correctly, and if it did - looks like the panel says General Electric on the sticker on the right side.

From the Amazon listing on that 200A main:

"For Bryant (Old Style) Suffix M, N, Or C (Not CT) Load Centers"

If it's one of those (M, N, or C) it should fit and would be the correct breaker. I cant tell from the pics which load center it is.

Also, from the Amazon ad:

"JHDS hold down kit, necessary for using as a main or back feed device, sold separately."

The Bryant catalog numbers do end in M. Maybe I should peruse some other pics of Bryant load centers to see what the pattern is...

Thanks for pointing out the hold down reference, I missed that.

You have talked with Eaton customer support didn't you? What did they tell you?

Honestly, no, but I'll give that a shot Monday. I find that the forum provides much faster responses. ;)

The full part number of the hold down is BJHDS.

Good luck with calling Eaton Support. Most vendors support is 99% useless these days unless you are just checking stock.

With no reply I see you didn't consult with Eaton which is not all that unusual as there is the risk of getting a dire answer that you don't want to hear. But there is that risk of your accepting the liability in going along with opinions which may be contrary to those that are directly from the manufacturer. It is not unusual if you explained to the manufacturer what you are trying to do they may have other options that may be available that would be within their UL listing. It's called CYA in this litigious society.
