Highbay lighting which are 30A 120V circuits. Is this legal, if so what article? This is an existing situation where they want me to add a few more exits in this warehouse.

410.62(C)(2) allows branch circuits up to 50 amps for electric discharge luminaires.

What year NEC you looking at? That article isn't in the 2005 NEC. The OP was saying that the Exits and EBUS are tied into the EXISTING 120V 30A Lighting circuits, not can highbay lights be tied into Exits and EBUS if I understood what you said properly.

I misread his post, I just read the verbage and did not pay attention to the title, didn't think title leads to the beginning of the verbage. It is 2008 NEC but now does not apply.

2011 700.12(F) basiclly requires EBUs to be supplied from the lighting circuit.

700.12(F) is a long section so here are just parts of it.

The branch circuit feeding
the unit equipment shall be the same branch circuit as that
serving the normal lighting in the area and connected ahead
of any local switches.

There is an exception which may apply to you.

Exception No. 1: In a separate and uninterrupted area
supplied by a minimum of three normal lighting circuits, a
separate branch circuit for unit equipment shall be permitted
if it originates from the same panelboard as that of the
normal lighting circuits and is provided with a lock-on
feature.

These rules have moved around but have been pretty much the same for a long time.

I do not know of any code that prohibits supplying an EBU with a 30 amp circuit. Maybe the instructions?
