Hi,

I have question regarding TC-ER cable. If my cable does not have TC-ER ratings on it, does that mean it can only run in closed conduit and not cable tray system?
If it can only run in closed conduit, which NEC standards states that?

Cables not TC-ER such as link below. Would it be fine to fun on cable tray?

Type TC cable can be installed in cable trays. Type TC-ER, in industrial applications, can also be extended from the cable tray to utilization equipment. See 336.19 for details.

The cable you link, would not, IMO, be acceptable in most US jurisdictions as it is not a NRTL* Listed conductor

How about if the vented cable tray is closed on the top, but vented at the bottom. Would that cable be possible to run on cable tray?
A lot of servo cables the orange one I have seen in industry does install in cable tray but as far as I have seen, none as TC-ER on them though.
Any opinions?
 
392.3(A) lists the wiring methods that are allowed in cable tray.

In regard to your link, repeating, the problem I see is that the cable you linked is not a NRTL listed cable so many US jurisdictions would not approve its use in any situation especially as a power cable.
 
the spec sheet says it is UL recognized as AWM, which is not a conductor insulation accepted by the NEC, so it cannot be used in a situation subject to NEC rules.

it could however be used within a listed control panel, or some other factory assembly that is not subject to the NEC rules.

This LAPP cable is what you need to use in the US for the application you defined:

Unless the cable or conductor is listed in the NEC and approved by a NRTL for that purpose you can-not use it unless you get a waiver from the AHJ or it is part of a UL listed assembly or similar. When you find your conductor listed you are not done yet, then you have to find an acceptable installation method that suits your purpose.

I am going to look further into this AWM and cable-carrier rated. So for this LAPP cable A, can I run it without any tray, floating in air and tie it along side with conduit?

But in terms of servo cables, such as Siemens 6fx5008 or Indramat why can these cable be in a cable carrier, but not the one I specified?
What does these cable have that is not in common? I don't see anywhere on their specs sheet has TC-ER.

I believe I have seen servo cables used in multiple industry on cable carrier. I'm just not sure which standard/approvals are the one that allow them to do that? PUR Jacket? Refer below: Siemens Specs by LAPP

AWM is not an approved insulation for installations covered by the NEC. It is commonly used though in listed parts like control panels. I am also told it is common in switchboards.

These are all AWM.

You might have a good argument by saying you are following the manufacturer's instructions.

I doubt anyone is going to bat an eye within the limits of a factory assembled machine.

as far as how it is run, there is probably some kind of specification from the cable manufacturer that you should follow.
