Howdy Fellas!
I recently had a conversation with a county employee concerning the limitations of a Florida state "registered" contractor and what exactly the restrictions are. She told me there are no limitaions as long as you are permitted and working with in the county you are registerd ( with the exeption of fire alarm and signs)
Several others have disagreed, and say there are all sorts of limits on such county ER licsense as opposed to an unlimited EC ticket...........
Any of you guys tight on this matter?

Thanks,
PIG

The problem with the FL ER license is that every county and every municipality has different rules.
I have my ER license, and for most situations it is all the license I need, and quite a bit cheaper and easier to get, as well.
With the ER license:
Most counties will require you to post a bond. One of my neighboring counties doesn't require a bond, but requiries that you be in business for 5 years before you can work in that county.
Most smaller cities won't require a bond, but most of the larger ones do.

If you are going to work in one county, doing resi jobs, it is fine. If you want to grow, and do everything, it may hinder you.

This is true about the signs and fire alarm. The Er Lic. does not reciprocate with some counties especially down in south Florida. If you are in Central Florida you will have no worries. You can do any size structure and any kind of building. When it comes to fire alarm, you find a fire alarm company and sub them out. So you are acting as a GC. Get there quote and mark it up on you're bid. There are some disadvantages like when you register with some counties it can be a process of getting it done, so register with the counties you want, before some wants you to do a job there. It will save you some headaches

is that only if you reside outside of that county? it would be terrible if you live there but are required to do business elsewhere before they deem you "qualified". I hate those types of laws.

I know what county he is talking of and yes it doesn't matter if you live there or not you have to hold you're Lic for 5 years before you can work there.

You are correct! Only 31/2 years more and I can pull permits there.

I have a little longer! you know what will stink. If they change there rules again. Right when you think you have a chance of working there , they say sorry ,we don't do that anymore.
