I just finished reading Grounding vs Bonding: the big picture. This post definitely gives a more better understanding of the issue. I have not had much transformer and switchgear experience, but i am trying to better understand the whole issue and i have a few questions.

1. When power is distributed to a building; lets say a school for instance, is the power first distributed to a delta/wye xfrmr then to switchgear?

2. Does the egc bond to neutral of the xfrmr then jump to switchgear to bond building steel, water, and gas?

3. Is the feeder bonded to the switchgear then mdp?

Please help. No theories, just facts, thank you.

1. Typically a large building will have the incoming service voltage delivered in what voltage deemed mostly used in the building. Then there will be transformers (if necessary) located within the building.
Sometimes the voltage requested is too expensive to bring to the building.

2. If it is a service, the utility bonds at their transformer, and we bond at the service.

3. I am not sure what you are asking.

i understand that the feeder panels are bonded at the service, but where is the building steel, water, and gas bonded at?

And if there are xfrmrs in the building, in which bonding occurs at the X0, does the same size egc that is on the xfrmr bond at the service with the other gecs?

nevermind, i read more in to it last night, when i couldnt sleep. the whole thing was causing me not to sleep. but anyways, i feel a little better now that i read more in to it.

OK... but come on back if you have any question or doubt. We're here to help you get it right, and the only stupid question is the one not asked!!!
