I am not sure what it is now, but in the 80's and 90's New York City had it's own Electrical Code that was significantly stricter that the NEC. Here are a couple of examples...
Aluminum rigid Conduit for all Fire alarm installations.
No penetraitions in the top of the Fire Alarm Panel. (Everything was routed through a wireway mounted at the bottom of the Panel.
No 1/2" conduit...3/4" minimum
No 4 square boxes...4 11/16 boxes only which the locals call a "five inch box"
Conduit supported with in 12'' of a box.
And I believe conduit was to be supported every 8' instead of 10'.
These are just some of the examples that I rememeber, and this was in Manhattan, I don't know about the other buroughs...Brooklyn, The Bronx, Staten Island, and Queens.
