is it common to see the IR safety beam of an entrance gate wired to the common of the same on the exit gate?

i had to replace a bad section of u/g wire today on a gate where neither would close. it was the wiring to the IR beam on the exit gate; both entrance and exit were wired together.

Depends upon the manufacture, most of the ones I have done will have the n/c contacts from the IR on the safety loop at each gate, if this is a master/slave then it will wire to the slave control box, between the 24 volt common and the safety loop terminal, some gates will bring the 24 volt power to each gate controler so they can use one transformer, so you might have the common side of the IR to another box, but the IR should only go to the gate it controls. is this a slide or swing type gate?

its a sliding gate, each with own operator, and each with its own transformer. manufactured by elite access.

i couldn't recall seeing it like that before. the entry gate had its own safety loop on the control board, and the IR box next to the operator was connected to it. but on the opposite side, that box was wired to the common of the exit gate.

Does your IR's have target reflectors or are they the separate transmitter and receiver type? if they are the separate transmitter receiver type the other box just gets 24 volt power that can come from any source, grabbing 24 volts off another gate controller is not uncommon, but the N/C of the receiver has to be in the safety loop to keep the gate from closing on a vehicle.
