Hey all, I am new to this site and I can already see I can and will learn a ton!
I have a question about puting a Class 1 group D motor in the air stream for a ventalation system for flamable vapors. I work in a fiberglass opperation, these fans/motors are going to be used to pull vapors from the roll out room to outside. Do I need to use a motor with a pully and belt or can I have the motor in the air stream?

Please let me know if this is not making scense.

Thanks

Re: Electric motor/fan in air stream

If the motor, fittings, and seals are rated for the classification of the area it should not be a problem. My only caution would be to confirm with the manufacture's that the devices actually have agency approval, UL or CSA. Some only design to the standard and do not submit to the agency for the actual approval eventhough the catalog it as UL/CSA.
