The ICC certification is provided by the International Code Council and the NCPCCI certification is provided by the International Assoication of Electrical Inspectors. Here is the information on both:

It depends what state you live in as to which type of certification is recognized and accepted. Here in Florida, the ICC is the only recognized certification provider for inspectors and plans examiners.

I have passed all ICC electrical exams, and the plan review exam was much more dificult than the inspector's exam.

Hey Ryan,
Did you use any particular study guides or references in prepartion for the Plans Examiner exam? I had no problems with the inspector exams, but I do not have much experience with plans review.

You are correct, the ICC review test does state that it references the IBC, but when I took it, it didn't have any questions from it. I beleive that what they would ask, should they referene the IBC, would be about emergancy lighting and exit lighting.
Bryan: I didn't use any particular study guide. The plan review test was more difficult because there was more math, and more odd-ball code questions. There were a couple of fault current calculations to do to compare with the AIC ratings spec'd on the equipment. I honestly think that you would do fine though Bryan. If you have experience even reading plans you'll be OK. They did use a few symbols that I wasn't familiar with, like for floor boxes, and some other things.

I thought the ICC Electrical Plans Examiner test was the most difficult of all the ICC tests. The plans that are provided are horrible. No building department would consider these as workable. But I guess maybe that is the point of plan review. Know when to REJECT!
