What is code concerning door swing of a room dedicated for electrical distribution panels and transformers (electrical room)? This particular situation is in a new hospital.

I think the rule you are talking about only applies when the room contains "large equipment," a term defined as having a rating of 1200 amps or higher. If one or more of the exits from the working space required in front of such equipment happens to be a doorway, then the door must open outwards and have "panic hardware." The rule is somewhere in the vicinity of NEC 110.26, but I don't have my book handy, and I can't give you the exact article.

Depends on the code cycle, there is a considerable difference between '05 & '08.

In '05, the door is to the "space", not necessarily to the room. In the '08, there is a measurement added, which is 25' I believe- I am too lazy to open it now.

Also, if the door opens into a hall used for egress, the building code will have some considerations to the install as well.

I don't have a '08 though I did hear that they put a distance back in.

I do agree that door swing could be a problem, but hopefully the designer takes that into consideration.
