I know a young man who refurbishes bathrooms. He has recently informed that as of late it has been in vogue to install a receptacle in the vicinity of the toilet because in the not too distant future toilets will be operated electrically. Any feedback out there???

Re: Electric Toilets??

That sounds pretty ridiculus to me as the current method of using gravity seems to work just fine for flushing toilets.

In any case, that receptacle needs to be GFCI protected and on a 20-ampere branch circuit.

edit: I do remember using a toilet at fancy hotel that had a heated seat. I neglected to see how it obtained its energy.

Re: Electric Toilets??

We did a house with those. I can't remember if they wanted the toilets on a dedicated circuit. It was nothing special flushing it. One more thing that won't work when the power go's out.

Re: Electric Toilets??

We have had some projects where an outlet(not a recep outlet) is installed behind and below the toilet for the auto flush. We've had sinks done that way too.
Other auto flushes use battery power.
Code is silent about the 120 volt powered ones. The actual soelinoid is 24 volts.
There are also toilets and urinals that use electric heat to burn the waste. Seen these out in Joshua Tree National Park in the desert. Trying to conserve water. Wery odiferous. Probably need one of those "fart fans" that was in another post. ;)

Re: Electric Toilets??

i have heard the same thing about toilets that burn the waste. they had them out in the dessart test sites. took a full circuit!

Re: Electric Toilets??

beleive it or not,,some toilets have heated seats,,i;ve done one,i installed a 20amp,seperate circiut, below the tank, about 6" from the floor, these heated toilet seats are still big $$,although i'm sure we'll see more of them as the prices comes down,,dont forget to charge the guy the vogue price,,

Re: Electric Toilets??

Toilet seats that run off electric power supplied from a receptacle outlet next to the toilet are pretty much the standard in Japan for at least 10 years now. In Hawaii we have lots of part time residents that are from Japan. They always insist on the outlet when remodeling, or new construction. By the way the seats in question will play music when sat upon ( I think this is to cover up other sounds that may happen), they have warming features, squirt water, and probably other features, however I never really found out cause I can't read the electronic screen controls that is attached to the seat. Pretty weird stuff....

Re: Electric Toilets??

Hello-

I installed a recpt. for one that was heated and had a arm rest with controls for sprit zing. IT seems a little "water pick" looking thing came from the back just under the lid with heated water and did its thing .The controls had universal type pictures for front and back.go Whats next?
