Hello

I am an electrical engineer with 2 years experience in the industrial field. I was thinking about pursing an electrical contractors license to have it avaliable for in the future if I ever pursue owning my own contracting business or something similar.

The question I have, is what it would take to get a contractors license? Would it just be a matter of taking the test? Would I have to do an aprentinship, or would my engineering degree and work experience in the field count for that? Can anyone explain the process of getting licensed or point me to a website that would explain it?

Thanks

Every township or county is different. Some Counties have a countywide licence and then some individual townships have a contractor registration process. In my 100 mile radius There are aprox 25 individual licences and or registrations to obtain. It is rediculous the state should be in charge of licensing. The whole point of licensing is to protect consumers from unqualified or unscrupulous contractors. Not to gouge people with no competition the towns should stay out of the licensing and stay on top of the permit angle to generate revenue

In Ohio that is how licensing is set up and exactly for the reasons you wrote.
