For new construction or remodel how often are you working off of plans vs. doing a walkthrough and designing the electrical system yourself?

Never had plans on new residential, but then I have only done custom homes, so I’m probably in the minority there, but on new commercial always had prints.

Residential never seen a plan print for electrical. Like mentioned by others, new might get hands onto general construction prints, and then add the electrical myself. Even on some small commercial didn't get electrical design, and had to do it myself.
Now my question is for you guys doing the design process yourself, do you get paid to design? There can be hours of work on some designs yet most customers around here feel they shouldn't have to pay you if you're not on site doing actual installation.

If your company gets the job the customer pays either way, its just how the sales person negotiates it and the customers perception.

They are paying for it one way or the other. Either directly or indirectly. Personally, I think you are best off not having a specific fee for electrical design as that might be considered as electrical engineering and the P.E. mafia might come after you.

We, in good old NE, can design within the context of our license and not get hammered. I suspect a nuclear power plant may not be included.

If the PE wanted to they could have done the electrical in the prints with all the other design and mechanical, haven't seen a single resi or small commercial that has had any electrical design. Closest I've come across was reference to minimum lumens for lighting or energy code requirements for lights and heat.

When I bought the plans for my house when I built it in the 90’s, it had basic electrical on it, receptacle, switch, and lighting locations, but no service or mechanical drawings.
