Hi, I want to supply 208v,3phase power to the new 30HP elevator per their request . I think I have to provide a 45 kva transformer converting 240v (Available power in the bldg.) to 208v. What type of motors are the elevators...?, do have to consider 140% of name plate current to size the xfrmer and overcurrent protection devise?. Also what size OPD, disconnect sw. and breaker should I use. Please advise....Thank you

I would ask them to supply the elevator with the right voltage.

On most of my projects, the elevator people send a form letter with their submittals asking the architect to sign off on the available voltage.

Is the equipment on site already?

If you are sure it's 208V, 3-phase, buy 3 - 240/120V transformers and bank into DY1. You'll get 208V 3-phase on the wye secondary. On the sizing portion, see if there are additional loads that the owner might throw in, then base your total 3-phase capacity on the total expected load plus some margin that you think is agreeable with the owner.

Why wouldn't you?

The elevator guys may not want the transformers in the elevator machine room, but thats the only problem I can think of.

I thought there was a rule about autotransformers on elevator motors. maybe my rememberer is not functioning correctly. it is not something I deal with.
