I think 210.70(C) has your answer. I seem to recall a rule that says you can have a motion sensor, but that can't be the only method of control. But I don't know where that might be found in the code.

In general, it can't be controlled by automatic means. The way 110.26(D) is worded, "automatic means ONLY", one could argue that if the automatic means has a manual on setting I guess it would be compliant. Or another way might be to have 1 required manual switch controlled light and have additional lights on a motion sensor.

Thanks, Texie. 110.26(D) was what I half-remembered. So yes, the lights can be on a motion sensor. But there has to be a way to manually turn them on and bypass the motion sensor's timed shut off.
