- I have just had a WarmTiles FGS thermostat die after a power outage. It was only 4-5 years old. That is too short a time to think it normal.
- Doing some digging for alternate thermostats I am seeing they are rated for 15 Amp. When replacing switches and outlets I have always matched a device to the Amp circuit it is on.
- So, now I have a 15 Amp thermostat on a 20 Amp breaker that powers the bathroom.
- From the digging, the life span of these thermostats is reported to be reduced by power surges that can follow a power outage (I have no verification of this), but my area does have regular power interruptions.
- How can I protect a 15 Amp thermostat on a 20 Amp breaker?
- Would a 20 Amp GFCI breaker protect the thermostat from surges or would the surge through a 20 Amp GFCI still slowly fry the thermostat?
- Am I barking up the wrong tree?
