Be sure and check the UPC or local adopted Plumbing Code and check with the nat. gas utility.
Some require that the meter be a (our area 3 ft.) certain distance away but I don't think they address the piping.

in my area they used to specify 6' but I dont think they really enforce any distance anymore by some of the installs I see.

I don't see any reason for concern with this, just two pipes running side by side. This may be a plumbing issue if any but I even doubt that. A metering room may be a different story. Try a plumbing inspector if you EI can't help.

Yes, check your major building codes, Example - IBC, or your local favorite and its usually spec'd in new construction to maintain a minimum of 2" between other services
