Good afternoon folks, I would like to better understand the electrical and the Egress requirements. The NEC 110.26 (c)(1) establish the electricvcal room needs access to Egress, but some folks thinks that is not the case for service entrance of 200a or 400a 208v 3ph.

Can you please show some lights into this.

Thanks in advances!

Perhaps this will help clear things up. That article says nothing about an electrical room. Nothing in the code ever requires panels to be inside an electrical room. The thing that needs a path for access and egress is the working space in front of the equipment. It doesn't matter what the voltage or current rating of an item might be, whether it is a panel, switchboard, switchgear, motor control center, VFD, lighting relay panel, or a host of other items. They all need working space, and we have to be able to get into that space and leave that space. That is what 110.26(C)(1) is talking about.

In a general sense, you'll need an egress path for any room with electrical equipment, and the only requirement for door hardware, is the same as any other exit door. Unless it is a prison, most fire codes require the ability to exit any room, without needing any keys or passcodes, and without relying on the electric power to be able to exit.

There are specific requirements for 800A+ and 1200A+. 800A+ requires listed panic hardware on doors less than 25 ft from the workspace. 1200A+ requires either a way to exit on both sides, double the workspace, or a continuous and unobstructed egress path.

Based on your description the disagreement is over if there needs to be a way to get out of an electrical room? I would like to be in on that one, but I'm sure I'm missing something here. :?
