I have been given the opportunity to write our electrical safety policy and was wondering if there was any one out there that has expirence in writing a policy for their company. We had talked about adopting the NFPA 70 E as our policy but I would like something a little more specific. Im working in a paper mill with 575 volt primary. Any suggetions or help would be appreciated.

Re: Electrical safety policy

Check out the Annex's of NFPA 70E. Annex E provides an outline for an electrical safety program. Just simply insert topics and issues specific to your work. Annex F provides a nice Hazard/Risk evaluation procedure. Annex G provides a decent Lockout/Tagout procedure, and Annex I has a good Job Briefing and Planning Checklist.

Grayboy and Associates procduces a book written by James Stallcup called "OSHA Electrical Regulations Simplified." This book also has some great breakdowns and procedure checklist for a typical to a completely custom company safety procedure.

I suggest you check out both references.

There are many consultants out there that will help you. I am a big fan of the Construction Safety Council. They are a nonprofit located in Hillside IL. 800-552-7744 or www.buildsafe.org
