Electrical service

I was wondering what would be the best way to provide service to the following senario. There is going to be a new service coming out the nearest Manhole with a 1200A 480/277 3ph service going up to the third floor of an industrial bldg. From the manhole there will be a new 750kva utility transformer. My question is it better to put a c.t. can and meter/main or is it better to put a swithgear on the ground floor that will be serving the 3rd floor swithboard? For the 1200A service there is 4-4" conduits with 3 sets of 4 #500mcm. All the equipment has to be Square D according the clients if that matters....Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Better check with your "electric utility service requrements".

What sort of switch gear do you propose to put in the third floor?

And what about your tap rules after a transformer?

In other words set the switch gear at the transformer.

Oh and I can't imagine the fire marshall would allow the main switch to be indoors on a 1200 amp service.

See it all the time here in Ohio, both commercial and industrial. In fact, it is rather uncommon for the service disconnect to be outside for such services.

John,
For the 1200A service there is 4-4" conduits with 3 sets of 4 #500mcm.
If that is a single 1200A main breaker, you need to put some wire in the empty conduit. Three sets of 500 kcmil is not enough for a 1200 amp main.
