Electrical tape conducts electricity??

Semi-conductive electrical tape is commonly used for electrical field grading on high voltage splices; the idea being to create an equipotential field around your splice and minimize coronal losses. Same concept as corona rings on transmission lines.

We use Scotch #13, just enough to cover any sharp points or protruding surfaces, then over-wrap with insulating tape.

Corona! ....that's what it was!

Corona has to do with high voltage, and is in no way similar or related to an electric field caused by current, .... is that right?

I googled it and didn't find anything that I thought explained it very well.

Well corona means if the air around a electric field and the electric field is intense it will cause the air to ionize and form corona .

What this does is it can pass a electric charge between points it can with high voltage glow meaning you can see it you can hear it and you dont what this it damaging it only gets worst over time .

At high freq and high voltage you can make wire insulation glow thats corona !
