Duties.....An Electrical Tester performs various technical tests on electric revenue meters, protective relays systems, instruments, transformers, and other electrical and electronic apparatus or materials in the field and/or laboratory; and may act as a lead of a small crew engaged in testing.
Test....The examination will consist of a multiple-choice written test. In the written test, candidates may be examined for knowledge of: principles of electricity and electronics related to testing electrical, electronic, and digital equipment; A.C. and D.C. theory and circuitry; wiring standards; general electrical terms describing electrical equipment used in the power industry; methods used in testing electric meters, transformers, protective relays, station equipment, instruments, cathodic protection, oil, and insulation; operation and causes of trouble in electric meters, instrument testing apparatus, and electrical equipment; safe operating procedures on all work undertaken; testing for disposal of toxic gas in vaults; safety practices and precautions necessary when working near energized electrical equipment; basic algebra and trigonometry; English usage; supervisory principles and practices as a lead worker including equal employment opportunity; the ability to follow detailed technical instructions; read and interpret wiring diagrams and equipment drawings; assist in training and leading a crew; deal tactfully with City officials, the public, and department employees; and other necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities.
