Re: Electrical Theory

My local library was a dud, too... then I visited their website. In the 'databases' area, are just great things, in particular a full set of technical textbooks. On the web, I've found the following. No specifics (SCCR calculations, motor starting, protective relaying, lighting, etc) but each of these has a 'guided, general' treatment of electrical theory. Hope you find something useful.

Introductory: Some articles at allaboutcircuits, tpub (public domain military) , eaton basics 101, siemens 'step' series. Higher level, found a marvelous collection of lectures here which MIT graciously allows public access to. I'm sure there are better, but these are what I've used for general theory...

Did you speak with the Reference Librarian? They can get information from all over the world in just a few minutes. They can find the types of sites that several Forum members have listed here, and many others.

You can even have an on-line "chat" with a Reference Librarian any time of the day or night. They can show you (not just give you the links to) any number of sites with relevant information. Ask your local library if they participate in a "24/7" reference program, or just look up "24/7 reference" on Google or Teoma or another search engine.

{You get three guesses to figure out what my wife does for a living.} ;)

Re: Electrical Theory

I was pretty excited, since I am not watching the SuperBowl - Go Seahawks - until I read this:

"In the process, as the charge progresses through the appliance, its voltage drops from 120 volts to essentially zero volts with respect to the earth. This spent charge is then dumped to the earth through the ground wire. In the standard US receptacle, the charge at about zero volts is carried back to the electrical panel through the neutral wire and then transported to the earth by the ground wire attached to the electrical panel."

Dumping to earth must be a lay term.
