Is sprinkler required in the electrical room?

The NEC does not address where sprinklers are REQUIRED. Only where they are PERMITTED. (110.26(F)(1)(c))

This depends on the fire marshall. I am wiring an Irish Pub downtown and the sprinkler foreman has approved stamped blueprints showing sprinklers in the electrical room. I said thats crazy. The electrical room sits under the front sidewalk,not even in the building. The elevator room also has a sprinkler,but we're installing a shunt trip breakers to cut all power in the elevator room and pit. To have a 800A 3-phase service with a sprinkler overhead is asking for problems.

According to the IBC, if sprinklers are required in the building, they are not allowed to be omitted from the electrical room.

In MA, if there is no sprinkler head in the electrical room, it has to be a 2-hr rated room.
