I don't know if this is happening where you are but, in MA there are many adds on TV for schools to become an electrician and they say that electricians are in high demand.

When I check for employment opportunities there are none or very few advertised in New England.

I know quite a few good guys that are looking for work right now.

Seems like false advertising by these schools.

It's forward planning. The baby-boomer generation is just now reaching the age of retirement. When all is said and done, there will be a huge shortage of trade workers in this nation.

electricians are in high demand..... by them.... someone needs to
sign up..... that's a demand, right?

i myself am appalled that in america someone has misrepresented the facts
in order to influence someone spending money. it's never happened here before.

um, brian, it's just my opinion, y'understand, but after last october,
there is no age of retirement for boomers.... you're gonna see a lot of
cranky gray haired old people in jobs, for a long time. :-(

Tim,

I think they are advertising, because there are no younger kids out of high school or college entering into the trade. I see older electricains at the required 15 hr courses and very fwe younger electricians. Give them a call and see who is hiring?

Same here on the left coast, schools are trying to survive like everyone else. Even public advertising for residential remod and private construction with 5yr guaranteed electrical work was unheard of until now.

Tech and JATC schools are hurting in the same regard. Can't blame them for at least offering training that can keep instructors busy and help many unemployed better their job resume. There are a lot of capable people out there wanting an option and willing to learn. rbj

I never see anyone under 35 (except for me) at my CEU classes.

I went to a Tom Henry class before taking my test; I was 24, there was a guy who was 22 I think, and the next youngest was almost 40.

I see a lot of young helpers on jobs, but many of them move on to something else after a couple of years, if they last that long.

When I went to a tech school it was $15k in 1998, now it is $30k The class rooms are packed. It really seems they targeted the lower income families so these students will get a free ride because of their income status. To me this is capitalism at it's finest. Is it good or bad who knows. I know it was well worth it for me.

In my area employment is scarce. I know I had to relocate for a job. It's like living in the desert and wanting to study ocean life.
