I am hooking up a bonded 17.5 kw portable generator ( generac ) to a new subpanel using a 50 amp inlet and a double pole double throw switch as the manual transfer switch . Since the generator is the bonded type this would be considered a separately derived system and the neutral would have to be switched as there can only be 1 bond point between the grounded conductor and the ground . Would a ground rod be required at the site of the inlet to be connected during use and can you see any code issues with this installation ? I will be using a 3 pole switch 2 phases and the neutral switched together,

I there any reason why you want this setup as an SDS? You could eliminate the MTS and grounding electrodes if you use the generator with an unbonded neutral.

If you connect it this way and the existing N-G bond is outside the transfer switch, then yes. I think I would separate N and G at the generator, though, and not switch the N.

What is the model number of the generator?

I'm pretty certain the last 2 Generac 17.5kw portables we wired for, did not have a neutral bond connection (They floated)

I ordered a 2 pole switch and am now returning it for 3 pole as I did not supply generator . That being said do you see a problem with the install? I read online that for arcfault and gfi breakers this might be the preferrd method.
