Hi. Question about a panel and wiring. Panel is in the kitchen. After it was installed years ago they put two more drywall layers on the wall so now the ege of the panel is set back more then 1", cover can not cover breakers, there is a sizable gap. It's clearly unsafe but I can not tell the owner exactly what in the NEC was violated here.
The other thing is that this is an area for cooking and dishwashing. Can we keep existing MC cables attached to walls and ceiling?
take care guys and be safe. Dan

312.3 Position in Wall
In walls of concrete, tile, or other noncombustible material, cabinets shall be installed so that the front edge of the cabinet is not set back of the finished surface more than 6 mm ( 1/ 4 in.). In walls constructed of wood or other combustible material, cabinets shall be flush with the finished surface or project therefrom.

Are you saying the MC cables are exposed? If so how do they enter the panel?

He needs a good drywall man to cut the opening and corner bead it so cover can go back where it belongs.Really not a hard fix but needs to be done.

This would be simple solution. Actually it's done quite often.

See 312.11(D). The cover is supposed to sit flush against the devices (breakers) contained in the panel.

Through holes above the panel. Thanks for your reply. Probably we'll cut the drywall for the cover and pipe branch circuits. have a good day , Dan
