if you pull a ground wire in to emt and connect the wire directly to the device are you still required to bond the ground to the box the wire is continuous allthe way back to the panel which is bonded.

Yes, you are always required to bond the box, the bonding can not relay on the device being installed.

250.148(B) spells it out very directly.

250.118 Types of Equipment Grounding Conductors.
The equipment grounding conductor run with or enclosing the circuit conductors shall be one or more or a combination of the following:
(1) A copper, aluminum, or copper-clad aluminum conductor. This conductor shall be solid or stranded; insulated, covered, or bare; and in the form of a wire or a busbar of any shape.
(2) Rigid metal conduit.
(3) Intermediate metal conduit.
(4) Electrical metallic tubing.

I would say that the EMT was the EGC that would bond the box and the installation you are describing would be compliant unless you are wanting to have an isolated ground in which case the device would need to be of the type that would allow this.

Mike regardless of it being EMT, if you pull a EGC you must bond it to box unless there are no splices.

But you know that so whats up?

perhaps Mike is thinking 250.146(d)

Yes this is what I was wanting to say but I should have used the word ?IF? instead of ?UNLESS?

Thanks Bob for keeping me straight.

i thought the purpose of bonding the box and connecting it to the device was to maintain continuity of the grounding electrode conducter to the service ground bar which is already bonded to the neutral bar.and if the wire is continuous all the way back to the panel and is bonded correctly at the panel why would this not be acceptable as being bonded to the box considering the nec says conduit is an acceptable ground?
