Seriously, All joking aside, why are you asking? If you have to ask that you are not qualofoed to do this work.

What "work" are you considering doing? There are specialist sout there for this.

well is in train rapairshop .isnot third rail is a 600 volts DC it came from a plugg kind off wich is used to power up the train while is being service or rapair there is time when we have indication light that the motors are graunded so what they do is disconect the motor and conect bank of light in series with the comutator adn see if the light era bright or not . I am in diferent job but they could send me to do this and I found this unsafe

So you are not working on 600VDC you are working near (Or may be asked to work near) a 600VDC rail correct??

I have seen this practice before and your gut is right, it is an unsafe practice. I hate to say this but the best advice is dont get near that rail!! I would ask the workers there what they do, I bet they say, dont touch the rail. I have addressed this practice with a (Used to be ) local light rail safety officer and he didnt want anything to do with my concerns, you can always call in OSHA for a inspection (No names needed).

Do not know if OSHA inspects your facility. There are many industries where OSHA does not inspect. There are other federal inspectors who cover these other industries/work sites. Ask the other electricians and foremen what the hazard is.
Where I used to work was inspected 3 times per year - but not by OSHA. You will find that what is considered a hazard in residential or light commercial may not be considered an electrical hazard in many other places.

from what i gather this repair shop does not have the hot rail, but they are using a type of plug connector to power them up during service. apparently they get an indicator light sometimes that says something is not right, and they hook up some type of home-made (or shop-made) lights to the 600vdc and the brightness of these lights lets them know if it is safe to resume work. i think that is what wilsa said. that does sound pretty dangerous. what if they guy who knows how bright they're supposed to be calls in sick? :)
