Well it's Sunday and I probably should have been doing something besides working, but I live in a resort area in upstate NY and a lot of home owners are not around during the week and only vacation at their northern homes on the weekend. So, I thought I'd help a couple of different home owners by finaling out the electric for their homes.
What a walk in the park when I found out it was electricians from Mass.

There must be enough code enforcement, training and respect for the profession there in MA. It's always such a pleasure to inspect compared to so much of what the local NY'ers have to offer.

Keep up the good work and keep retiring up here.

It's all "Iwire's" fault. Oh wait, it was a compliment. Thanks, I do the best I can! :D

Seriously though licenesing and education are very well enforced here so we have no choice. That said there are a lot of Mass guys on this site that choose to be here so there are some that actually give a crud. Even you inspectors.

You can only blame someone if they are out of the room and can't hear you.

Enforcement is a nice way to say it! lol

Never worked in NY though, at least not yet.

Tom:grin:

Have a great Sunday.

I'm an Electrician - and originally from Massachusetts - but never in the trade there - does that count?

If you're smart enough to be in California this time of year, you can lead the whole pack !

As a system contractor in Mass, and having just completed rough construction of a log vacation home in upstate NY (outside of Lowville), I have to admit that I was surprised at the difference in code enforcement. The county building inspector was professional and knowledgeable, it is just a lot more low-key. I asked him about when to schedule my next inspection, and he said "not for a while". Septic needed 1 inspection, not 3 like at home. I have not had any wire inpections yet, but I hope to be done with the project completely in early spring.

I was down that way (Osceola) a couple of times this summer. Lots of wind turbines set up and running. I think that wind farm in Martinsburg (?) must have 200+ towers...You'll probably get wind energy from the grid. You must be a snow-mobile-er...that area got over 12 feet of snow in one week last year....

You can speak for yourself about the quality of work upstate, but downstate in the city region quality of work is taken very seriously. The best electricians I know are from New York.

After having lived, worked, and been licensed in several states, I take my hat off to electricians in MA.
When I had guys working for me up there, they might be late, might slack a little, but they knew what they were doing when they were on the job.
Now try a state like Florida where there are no licensing requirements like MA, and you will want to pull your hair out (if you have any after a couple of years here).
That said, I have met a couple of electricians here but let me tell you, they are few and far between.
I don't know how anything gets accomplished down here.

I have had the pleasure, of inspecting the fine work done by Ma. electricians for over 20 yrs.

The only thing I am unhappy about is the way the MGL allow pepole without licenses to do electrical work on their own properties.

I'd say it bothers me too but I've done my own plumbing, painting, lead paint removal, roofing, and many other things, some require licensing some don't.
So who am I to say.

Duckman, Where are you at in Lowville? I am originally from there, living in Virginia now. All my family is still their. There are some excellent electricians from upstate NY, but their is also no licencing requirments outside of city limits, so you get a lot of trunk slammers doing work for nothing on the weekends their not working at the Mill.
