I just had an opportunity to review the new proposed 626 on electrified truck parking. I have been involved in the design of several such facilities as well as RV parks. I am dismayed to see NFPA mandating that 3, and only 3, receptacles must be provided and that one of them must be a 30A 4-wire pin & sleeve connection. No truck manufacturer now equips trucks with pin & sleeve connections for shore power. In addition, only two legs of a 208Y/120V can be used with the pin & sleeve. For a brand new section of the NEC with no such facilities even being used, this section appears to be specifying the design rather than requiring safe construction. I would recommend that the specifics of the connections be allowed to evolve, rather than be codified. The requirements for conductors, load levels, disconnects and GFCI are all appropriate for safety.

I believe the 30A plug requirement would be for future uses. Right now, most trucks do not have 30A of power requirements. But many truck manufacturers feel that their industry is heading in a direction that will require larger load (such as HVAC and electronic devices) items on the trucks. Trucks with these load requirements will be supplied with a 30A pin and sleeve (or equivalent) devices.
