I work in the fast growing Data,Voice and wireless industry. I work with the Detroit Public Schools I have a new wireless install with in a school. The installation contractor is installing all of the access points above the drop ceiling.
In our new construction areas we are using the american access technology fire proof closures.
The have a dome shape and drop into the tee bar perfectly in a 2x2 profile who is right here in any air plenium I was told to never ever install electronics as per BICSI requirements.
What Nec code can I referance.
I could really use your help on this one  and also something to give me backing.
Thank you and all the best Brian

Re: electronic equipment above the ceiling line

Is it a plenum or enviromental air space? if the area about a suspended ceiling is used for return air it is not a plenum, it is enviromental air space.
Regarding the wireless access points, it is a violation of the NEC to have portable cord concealed by a ceiling. If the trasmitters have power supply cords, they can't be in the ceiling space, see 400.8
