Electronics in environmental air space

I am a consultant in the low voltage communications market. I have a client that requires an enclosure that can contain their electronic device and can meet the NEC regulations when installed in an environmental return air space.
Can a UL 50 Type 1 enclosure meet code?

The current requirement is for an enclosure approximately 6X10X4 inches.

As long as it isn't plastic it should be fine.
