I wonder if we can locate elevator control panel in the elevator. Or do they need to be located in a closet?

There are machine room-less designs where the controller mounts in the exterior wall of the elevator shaft.

We do a lot of machine room-less elevators but that does not seem to be the question.

If its not one of those, a elevator equipment room is required.
