Article 620.51 - If a hydraulic pump motor is fed directly from an overcurrent device (a molded case circuit breaker) located in MCC (motor
control center) in mechanical room and serving only a single elevator motor, why does 620.51(A) permits a disconnect switch in elevator machine room be a fusible disconnect switch or circuit breaker but not a non-fusible disconnect switch? Isn't the primary purpose of this disconnect switch to assure physical break in the elevator motor circuit?

Re: Elevator Disconnect Switch

most elevator equipment require special fusing "k" rated and they are very difficult to install in a no fuse disconnect switch. if a second disconnect switch is needed downstream due to location or sight situations -- they are no-fuse.

Re: Elevator Disconnect Switch

Actually 620.51(A) doesn't permit it, it requires it to be a fusible disconnect or enclosed breaker.

Take note that all "first in line" Overcurrent Devices associated with the elevator are to be in the machine room see 620.53 as well.
