Hi Im installing a disconnect in the elevator machinery room for the elevator equipment. I am aware that there is a certain distance from the point of entry into that rioom that the disconnect must be installed along with the light switch. I looked at the code section Art. 620 but I could not find the distance that the Disconnect or switch for the elevator equipment room needs to be installed form the door. Do any of you know if it is referanced in the NEC or if anyone knows what the minimal distance would be???

Im pretty sure that there is a code involved thats not local I think it may be a State code I am in California. The reason I bring it up is I did a job with an elevator a while back and I remember not passign my inspection VERY VIVIDLY !! I guess there is a shortage of elevator inspectors in CA. and they had to reschedual the inspection and it held the job up for 2-3 weeks before they got it reinspected. I cant find any of the specs I used and pretty much all but blocked that job from my memory. If anyone knows where I can find the Code if its some national or stats buildiong code or if any of you ever ran into this issue?

There is an elevator code that has electrical requirements that differ from the NEC. I don't have a cope or know the title of the code.

I have recently wired a elevator room and pit. The door leading into the elevator room must swing outward. I installed my light switch on wall as soon as you enter the room. The pump disconnect was next, then the disconnect for the car lights. Allways check with the elevater forman for your layout. they have codes that apply to our work.
