Example D9 in 2005 NEC - Why is 140% used in the feeder calculations for generator field control? I don't quite understand the "Continuous Rated
Motor" column of Table 430.22(E). As the table indicates, elevator operation is intermittent duty, and therefore, I thought first three columns
should be used in sizing the feeder conductors. What am I missing here?

The way table 430.22(E) is setup, you first select the duty operation of the motor in question and then select nameplate current rating percentages based on the actual rating of the motor.

In the example, the MG set will be of intermittent duty, however the MG set is rated as continuous.
