elevator feeder - neutral required?

I don't have a cut sheet in front of me. I do have a note I wrote to myself on an elevator checklist some unknown time ago. The normally-trustworthy notes say "elevator feeder shall be four wire (with neutral)". Is this a typical requirement for modern elevator controllers?

I would just add the neutral and call it a day, except I already issued the motor schedule with three wires. Now I'm caught in the dilemma - if you over-engineer, you don't want to do it by addendum for all to see.

My guess is the controller has electronic components that require a neutral so as to run at 120V. Are my notes correct that a 4-wire is required?

I think I found the answer to my second question (aux contacts). NEC 620.91(C), which applies to battery lowering systems located on the load side of the disconnect on hydraulic cars.

If they are on a generator, and hence no battery lowering system is installed, no aux contact is required.

Just curious... If the cars are not hydraulic (say, traction-type) but are short enough to not be on a generator, would a battery lowering system be required? ie, is there a situation where an elevator is not hydraulic but requires the aux contact?
