I have an existing building, where the elevators are being modernized; new controllers motors and cab upgrades. However, all of the elevators are on one feeder. this building was constructed 30 yrs ago or so.

I am looking for the proper code section whether its the NEC, ANSI A17.1 or IBC, which requires that each individual elevator hoistway and the number of cars in that hoistway are provided a dedicated feeder.

(I.E.) Two machine rooms serve 2 general elevator locations/ 6 elevators per location and 3 elevators per individual hoistway. As of 10 years ago or so, I have been providing separate feeders for the motors in a hoistway, even though they are served from a common machine room.

Are you talking feeder or branch circuit? I know that the lights, recep etc for the elevator area must be on separate circuits . A feeder is meant to control many circuits.

I ma speaking specifically for the elevator motor feeders, and not the misc. branch circuits for the other elevator machine room equipment; lighting, receptacles and controls
