I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea on what to charge for wiring elevators in a 3-story apartment building.

I have never done them and the print i am using to bid has zero specs or info.

Thanks in advance.

come on john you can't be serious. go get the specs, find out what you need and how much you need, add labor, submit price. you're either going to get laughed at or burned if you submit your bid based on a price you got from this forum.

Hey man I have been pulling my hair out for weeks with this print. Its a 6 unit apartment complex print with nothing more than the floor plan...thats it.

There are investors who are considering building this but I dont think they want to spend the money for complete prints. They want a basic budget number not a bid so help a brother out, preferably without patronizing.

i wasn't trying to be an ass; just trying to look out for you. i'm also a residential contractor, and i've learned that if a client won't pay to have prints drawn, they're not building anytime soon. anyhow, have they hired a GC? if so, find out who he plans to have install the elevator. get specs from them. won't you need that info too for the load calc? i just think there are too many variables here for anyone to give you a price and say 'go with this number.'

John,
I don't see any patronizing here. If you don't have a spec, you will get burned.
Look, if there are no prints, they are not going to build any time soon.
These things have to be designed, go through building departments, numbers have to be approved...
I'd tell you to go high. 100A minumum. Disco is going to cost a few hundred itself, wire, labor to install to elevator.
Problem is you don't know if the elevator is fed from the top or the bottom (I've seen both... on the same job)

I agree, not that it can't be done, but that it should not be done... for your sake.

Consider also that there's normally FA work and phone lines associated with these. Pit electricals and lights to.

If you felt like shooting a completely unofficial ballpark to them, just consider that a 3-story building will likely have a hydraulic elevator, with the mechanicals on the bottom most floor. Just shoot your number for a 100 amp branch circuit to the elevator room, phone line, and FA run.

Don't get too worked up over numbers for other people's budgetary planning. Make your best effort with what you have, guess a little, and don't sweat it. It's not like anybody's signing any contracts.

Thanks for the insight. As I said there isnt a contract or any obligation here I just wanted to get a ballpark figure for the investors.

I would never sign a contract without knowing exactly what I am getting in to..

Thanks again

John
