In an elevator machine room with 3 elevators (traction type in a 9 story high rise if it matters), do the 3 disconnects need to be isolated (as opposed to using a distribution panelboard with 3 circuit breakers in it.

And does it matter whether they are fused disconnect vs circuit breakers or will either do?

We use either a switchboard or individual switches adjacent to the entry door. I think that important thing is the proximity to the door. If the door location is not visible from the motor then another disconnect may be needed at the motor.

Doesn't matter the disconnect type. Just needs to be rated to interrupt a motor under load. Should have a horsepower rating.
