Elevator Machine Room Location

How far can you locate the elevator controller(Machine Room) from the elevator motor? Does NEC states maximum distance for that?

Isn't the elevator motor always found in the elevator machine room? The controller can be any distance, governed by common sense. The rules for elevators are contained in ASTM A 17.1. The rules for all electrical installations are found in the NEC. Clearances are in 110.26.

Hello jkim,
I have looked over Article 620, and I do not find any ruling on how far electrical equipment can be from a elevator.
I am in South Jersey, and I called the local elevator inspector, who I have known for many years. He does not know of any ruling on distance.
The one thing that he did say was,"the local electrical inspector has jurisdiction up to and including the line side of the main switch. From the load side of the main switch it is in the jurisdiction of the elevator inspector".
