elevator pit lighting

Try 620.23, I personally won't use that. It's always been the minimum EMT mostly rigid.

It also depends on where, and what type of structure this is in.
A quick call to the AHJ could clear up all this, JMO...

I agree I have never used it or seen it elevators pits before but a co worker is saying you can use it. I looked it up and I didnt see anything saying you couldnt use it. I am going to call The local AHJ here washington tomorrow to see what he might say.thanks

As far as the NEC is concerned, it wouldn't matter. However elevators are governed by a whole different set of codes. For instance, the light bulb must be protected by a wire cage.
Another gotcha is you can't run your conduit behind the ladder. You can't have anything else in the elevator equipment room except for elevator related equipment.
They might insist on a shunt-trip breaker. I don't know why but that would be the rule. They cost ~$800 so ask the elevator guy what exactly is required. He probably knows more about these intracities than the AHJ.

i have run plenty of mc in an elevator pit, sometimes its the only thing to use to get the flexability needed. ive even ran it behind the ladders because it was unavoidable, but there are elevator code enforcements where you cannot run anything. they allowed me to run behind the ladders as long as it is directly under a wrung where it would not interfere with footing. also the area at the bottom of the pit up to 18" is considered a class 1 zone 2 area. this elevator code is changed and enforced frequently.
